Hogan in The Washington Post “5-Minute Fix”

The case for ignoring most polls right now

The trend line of these polls is negative for Biden, but it’s just too early to even look at these findings, argues Tim Hogan, a Democratic strategist. He points out that President Barack Obama was ruled out at this point in his reelection. Same with other two-term presidents. “And this is the big point,” Hogan said. “People have not grasped that Donald Trump is the Republican nominee yet.”

Hogan, like many Democrats here in Washington, thinks that when it’s a binary choice between Biden and Trump, Biden will win. Whenever Trump does make news right now, it’s for calling his opponents “vermin” or saying he would consider being a dictator “on day one.”
